About Your Instructor and Guide
Hey there. I’m Tery, owner of Off Route Adventures. As a young child growing up on the tiny island of Singapore in South East Asia, exploring the isle’s back roads on bicycles was a favorite past time. At 15, I poured my life savings into buying a motorcycle, after which my mother promptly said she’d disown me.
With this new method of expanding my voyages of discovery (and having only a rucksack on my back) neighboring countries of Malaysia, Thailand and even the dense jungles of Burma (now Myanmar) were now within reach. Years later, I was assigned to ride motorcycles for the military which further fueled my enthusiasm for bikes as a means of exploration.
While attending college with the Beavers (Oregon State Univ.), I somehow found myself with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Many years were spent working in Silicon Valley in the hay day of the early 90's. The mountain bike trails and beaches of Santa Cruz kept me sane.
Leaving the likes of IBM behind, Colorado summoned. I became a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) motorcycle instructor and working with people to realize their fullest potential has since become my life’s work.
The need to travel off the beaten path on two wheels still flows through my veins. When not working on organizational matters, you can find me huffing and puffing up a climb on a mountain bike or out twisting throttles searching for new dirt.
Oh yes, and I’m happy to report that after 30 years, my family and my mom still love me; motorbike or not.
